What Makes a House Feel Like Home?

What Makes a House Feel Like Home?

You can walk into a beautifully designed room and still feel nothing. And then you can walk into a simple home and immediately feel comfortable. Why? Perhaps it's not the furniture. Perhaps it's the stories.

A home is made of memories. The mug you've had for years, the photograph on the wall, the book someone gave you, the little object you brought back from a holiday or the bowl that belonged to someone in your family. These things may not have much monetary value, but they have emotional value. And emotional value is what makes a space feel like yours.

A handcrafted object can become part of that story. Maybe you buy it to celebrate a new home. Maybe someone gives it to you as a gift. Maybe you discover it while travelling. Maybe you simply fall in love with it. Years later, you may not remember exactly when you bought it, but you'll remember the feeling.

Not everything in a home has to be useful. Some things simply need to make us happy. A beautiful box, a decorative piece, a colourful textile or a handcrafted object can have an emotional purpose. They remind us that our homes aren't showrooms. They're places where life happens.

Perfectly coordinated interiors can be beautiful, but sometimes it's the unexpected object that gives a room its personality. Something colourful, something old, something handmade or something that doesn't quite match but somehow belongs perfectly.

At Festive Trunk, we don't want to tell you exactly how your home should look. We simply want to help you discover objects that might become part of your story.

Because ultimately, a home isn't decorated all at once.
